Origin Story
At Champions Benchmark, we are driven by a deep commitment to empower individuals and families facing adversity and challenges. Our journey began with a vision to bridge the gap between resources and those in need, particularly in underserved communities. With over 20 years of experience in community service, program development, and the healthcare system, we recognized the critical need for accessible support systems and resources. The realization of the disconnect between available programs and those who could benefit from them inspired us to create a platform for change.
Champions Benchmark is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering at-risk youth and families in Rockford. Our programs focus on:
• Anger Management & Responsible Thinking and Self-Control – Helping individuals develop better emotional regulation and decision-making skills.
• Strengthening Families Parenting Classes – Supporting parents in building strong, healthy family dynamics.
• Mentoring & Educational Support – Providing guidance for youth, including IEP advocacy for students with learning needs and intervention for school suspensions or expulsions.
• Housing & Shelter Resources – Assisting individuals and families facing eviction, homelessness, or housing instability by connecting them to the right support systems.
Our goal is to provide structured, evidence-based programs that promote personal growth, family stability, and positive behavioral changes.

Our founder Demetrius Champion, proudly serve as the CEO and founder. With a deep-rooted commitment to community service, she brings a wealth of experience in facilitating anger management groups, parenting classes, and life skills workshops. Her tenure as a case manager for teens and families has honed her ability to connect individuals with vital mental health resources and guidance. Through collaborative efforts with esteemed partners such as major corporations, The Boys and Girls Club, religious institutions, Winnebago shelters, and pharmacies, Champions Benchmark has garnered invaluable expertise in delivering essential support to our community.
Driven by an unwavering passion for effecting positive change, she has dedicated herself to addressing the pressing needs of our community.
